Memories
As of this publication, we say ‘You will be missed’ to two of our members:

Ophelia Weitzman said that her mother was very talented but, due to a family emergency, could not finish school. She valued education and pushed her daughter to complete her studies. Ophelia graduated from high school in 1935, six weeks after she turned sixteen years of age and graduated from Indiana University in 1940. After college graduation, Ophelia joined the College Club as a member of the ‘Recent Grads’ and ‘Literary’ groups. Ruth Reed was club president at the time.
As soon as Ophelia graduated from IU her mother told her it was time to start on her Master’s degree. Ophelia was teaching and going to school and received her Master’s degree from IU in 1948. Ophelia first taught at Smart School on Pontiac then, for 10 years, she taught at Harrison Hill. Her principal at Harrison Hill was Frieda Lancaster.
Ophelia retired from teaching when she married her husband. He was already retired from GE. They traveled all over the world. Ophelia’s only regret was that she didn’t travel before she was a teacher because she would have been able to bring so much more into the classroom.

Rosemary Lanning, a member of AAUW from 1950 to 1967, died March 18, 2010.  During her years of active membership, she served on the reservations committee and as reservations chair, as well as on the fellowships committee and as fellowships chair. Rosemary, a professional family counselor, was a member of the Allen County Association for Mental Health and an active member of the Plymouth Congregational Church.
Rosemary Lanning is survived by her children, Martha Lanning, Tom Lanning, and Marilyn Cardew.

Hi Everyone!
A special thanks to all of you who were able to come to Indy to the IN AAUW Convention on Saturday. I am honored to serve for a second term as your President and will try to do my best for each and every IN AAUW member in the next two years. I also want to thank my wonderful IN Board of Directors who really work hard, as was evidenced on Saturday. They are a talented group of women who share our passion for AAUW and our mission. We are truly blessed to have them working with us to "grow" AAUW.

Thanks for all you do and for all the support you give me.

 Barb K., State AAUW President
