AAUW, FORT WAYNE BRANCH       JANUARY, 2010

THE BOOK NOOK

Calling all members of the Fort Wayne Branch of AAUW.  We need your help.
We will no longer be able to hold our Annual Book Sale at Jefferson Pointe.  This sale has always been our big money maker for the Educational Foundation…one of the main purposes for our Association’s existence.  It was also one of the ways we have become known through out the community.  The Board felt we could not let go of this concept completely.
The manager of the Speedway Flea Market allows nonprofit groups use unrented spaces free of charge.  Carolyn Hurley, one of our members, has a booth there called “Carolyn’s Eclectics”. When the booth next to hers became vacant she approached the manager to see if AAUW could use it and was given permission to do so.  Carolyn has generously donated 85% of the books, put in shelving, and manned it herself.  She has also put up signs giving our area the name: “The Book Nook”.
The Speedway Flea Market is open three days of each weekend, (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) from 10am until 6pm.  It is located at the corner of Speedway Dr. and Collins.  If you are on Coliseum you would go north on Speedway across from Glenbrook at the light by Arby’s.  There is a large white building surrounded by a large parking area with handicapped spaces for those who need it, this is Speedway Flea Market.

WE NEED NEVERYONE TO HELP IN SOME WAY if this is to be a success.
    1.  WE NEED BOOKS.  As with the past book sales no encyclopedias, Readers Digest condensed books, or textbooks unless really antique.  DVDs and CDs go well. Collectors also look for old advertising papers/pamphlets & needlework patterns.  Books can be dropped off any time during business hours.  If you cannot bring the books yourself pick-up can be arranged.
    2.  WE NEED WORKERS.  Scheduled at your convenience.  You don’t need to work the whole day.  A few hours every couple weeks would be wonderful.  Call Connie so she can she can put your name on the schedule.
    3.  Carolyn needs shelving boards (not book cases) for moveable shelving.
Carolyn Hurley – Call if you have a large amount of books to drop off so arrangements can be made. (413-7908)
Connie LaBrash – Scheduling of hours to work. (432-1887)
Pat Becker – Co-Director of Programs (484-9105 or tonypat41@msn.com)
